Typical Question:

I get the message "Too many users" when I try to start the system.

  Answer:

Your system is licensed for a limited number of users. The default number is two. Each time a user logs on to the system. One of those licenses is used. Each time a user exits the system normally by closing the system from the File / Exit menu command, one license is released and made available for another user.

When the system is terminated abnormally the license does not get released and when the system is restarted it believes it has one less user license than it did before. In a minimum system with two licenses, after two abnormal terminations, there are no licenses available.

Causes of abnormal termination include: Power failure, turning the machine off while the system is running, Control-Alt-Delete, pressing the reset button, Windows crashes or freezes, the network connection is lost, and several others.

To reset your license availability to the correct value, be sure that nobody is using the system. Then execute the program called Admin. When it starts, you will see a button labeled "Unlock Users". Click it. You should now be able to start the system normally. If you get a message about "exclusive use of files", either someone is using the system or the network server thinks someone is using it. In this event, reboot each machine that was using it, and try again.

Admin.exe is located in the same directory as the loan system. If you have a default installation, it will appear on your Start Menu. If you have a network or otherwise custom installation, it may or may not be on the Start Menu. If it is not on the Start Menu, ask your support person who installed it to create an icon for it. It will be located at the same place as the program attached to your loan system icon.
